Daigo Saito Wins Formula Drift Irwindale

October 12, 2014

October 12, 2014 - Santa Clarita, Calif. – The 2014 Formula DRIFT season came to a close last weekend in front of record crowds at the “House of Drift” in Irwindale, Calif. Three drivers from Team Achilles would stand on the podium over the weekend, with Daigo “The Ninja” Saito, winning the PRO round for the third consecutive time.

The PRO2 class, which was introduced this season by the series, would close out its season at Irwindale with two Achilles drivers, Dan Savage and Brandon Wicknick finishing in second and third place respectively. Dan Savage earned the first ever PRO2 championship for Achilles Radial in his Sikky Manufacturing Mazda RX8.

The PRO Rookie of the Year award was also won by a member of team Achilles, Geoff Stoneback. Stoneback also finished second in the PRO2 class, and showed the world that he is a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.

Saito, who crashed during his first qualifying run, was able to get the car back on track to qualify 29th place and get into the main competition. He then rose through the ladder to stand on the top of the podium, which was the single greatest comeback in Formula DRIFT history.

“This season had a lot of ups-and-downs for Team Achilles, said Director of Marketing, Cheralyn Hale. We saw Kenny Moen and Dean Kearney stand on their first FD podiums this season, won the PRO2 Championship and PRO Rookie of the Year race, and had four drivers in the Top 15 in points. We are proud of all of the drivers who run under the Achilles banner, and can’t wait for the 2015 season to begin!”
